Looking for someone to help you with professional attic insulation in Guelph (services/contractors) or nearer areas for your home?
Did you know that up to 40% of your heating or cooling cost can be attributed to the fact that your roof is not insulated correctly? Or that your insulation may not be performing as it was intended to? Why not get it updated! We install quality insulation suited to your home. The cost of this is not high, especially compared to the savings you will make long-term.
If you’re heating a room, that heated air will tend to ‘sit’ up against the ceiling, warming the ceiling. So if your home is not insulted properly, that warmth gets transferred into the roof space and outside your house! The loss of the heat results in the cooler air ‘dropping’ in the room, so you end up with a thermal cycling of the warm air to the ceiling, until all the available warmth is lost. This is very expensive.
A similar thing happens when you try to cool a room but in reverse. During a hot day the roof space gets very hot, and given it’s a roof with no real holes in it you get a ‘stack’ of hot air sitting in your roof space heating up everything it touches; including the ceiling. So then the ceiling starts to get warm and in turn heats the air against it. Now where are most fixed air-cons in homes? Yes, right up high on the wall, so they are then trying to cool down already warmer than normal air. It’s actually worse than this, as the temperature gauge in the aircon unit is constantly measuring the temperature at its on-the-wall location and not that at floor level, so it will try to ‘over cool’ when it does not need to.
Put both of these together and you will find 40% of both your heating and cooling costs are going out of the roof!
The attic is most exposed part of your home which is subjected to high temperature and its the place where most of the cold air enters your house. When you are installing a new roof, attic insulation is mostly recognized and considered at the same time. Having an insulated attic is very crucial because without or with insulated insufficiently, you could be experiencing problems like the discomfort of your home and more than average of expenditure in energy bills. So you should have your home attic insulated properly. It’s best and economical way to make your house energy efficient, comfortable and save your money by allowing your furnace or air conditioner to lessen the energy burden and prolong its life by maintaining better R-value (commonly about R50 to R60) and reduce the wear and tear of the roof. Also, in existing or old house, you can upgrade the insulation or ventilation to best and efficient one, if you are loosing coziness with previously insulated.

Upgrading the insulation in the attic is the most cost-effective way to improve the efficiency of your home. This can be completed within a few hours, with no mess left afterward either by installing the new one and removing old or adding on same. If you want to insulate with spray foam we should remove the fiberglass or cellulose insulation done before. We roll out the fiberglass and throw it to garbage or vacuum out the cellulose. Because it will make you worth your investment by providing better and more efficient and more comfortable weather in your home. We use the materials that are best for quality and more in R-value.
Optional: You can/should upgrade your ventilation system to your home to make attic insulation to work. Proper ventilation is required for this. When inspecting your home we also review your ventilation and make you some recommendation to make it better, either to change or upgrade.

Recommended R-value
R-value is simply a standard of measurement for thermal insulation, and the higher the number attached, the greater the ability of the product is to impede the transfer of heat between its exposed surfaces. The recommended R-value for attic insulation in Guelph is R-49 or more. Some homes in the Guelph will decidedly benefit from R-4.0 insulation in their roof. However, for the great majority of ceilings, R-3.5 per inch batts of a good quality brand are quite adequate – and all the more so when the insulation is installed with the requisite care and precision.
The Performance and usefulness of any roof insulation is determined by two factors: the quality of the insulation product, and the quality of its installation. Both are important, and the insulation is not worth having if there is a deficiency in either.
The Quality of Insulation is partly a function of the material it is made of, and partly a function of its manufacturer. Loose-fill materials will inevitably compact with time and their usefulness can rapidly decline within a few years of installation. Some earlier insulation materials also had a tendency to crumble and disintegrate with age, and many homes of older vintage will find this to be both a major cause of high utility bills and a major source of dust in their living and sleeping areas. Ceiling batts in use today are almost exclusively made of recycled glass with insulating properties and a lifespan that are greatly superior to loose-fill and earlier insulation materials. The best of these modern batts will retain their efficiency almost indefinitely – they will not compact, crumble, shed fibres or disintegrate – and the products we use carry a manufacturer’s warranty on the retention of the stated R-value for a minimum of 50 years.
The Quality of Installation is solely determined by the patience and competence of the installer(s). Insulation installation is not an unduly complex task. However, when done with the requisite care and precision, it is a time-consuming process. The time needed to insulate the ceiling of a three bedroom home is 6 to 8 hours for two good installers. It can also be done over a weekend as a DIY project by anyone with a sharp knife, good balance, and a measure of manual dexterity. The main points of installation are these: (1) Where the batts need to be cut to shape, the cuts should be precise to achieve a snug fit; (2) Adequate clearances should be left around such ceiling fixtures as downlights, vents and flue pipes; and (3) No electrical cable should be covered over by insulation.
